6.2 earthquake in La Paz area

A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Mexico ‘s Baja peninsula Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake’s epicenter was 47 miles (75 km) north of La Paz, Mexico, USGS said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Five more tremors magnitude 4.8 or less until shortly after midnight here in La Paz. The magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, on Tuesday 17:45hr.



It caused some panic, but local officials said there were no reports of damage or injuries. The quake’s epicenter was located 46 miles (75 km) north of La Paz, Mexico, and was centered in the Gulf of California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
School are suspended across the state on Wednesday while officials examined sites for damages. Some other public buildings would also be closed today,  Wednesday for checks.





A magnitude 6 earthquake is capable of causing severe damage. Five more tremors, magnitude 4.8 or less, followed the bigger quake, all clustered north of La Paz.
